Not affiliated with other apps whose name contains "Tack". The name is written "Tack+" (also "Tack Plus"); the website is [tackplus.app](https://tackplus.app/). **What it does / Ce qu'il fait** - **The assistant** (optional, Apple silicon only, since 1.0.61; extended in 1.0.63): a local AI with a mascot. Its model (Qwen3.5 4B, Apache 2.0, a 2.74 GB download from within the app) runs on the Mac; requests are not sent to any AI service. It has 40 tools. Ask it in plain words to tidy, find, move, rename or trash files and folders, read or append to a text file, take a note in Notes, open or quit an app, open a site in Safari or Chrome, run a web search, read a public web page; and, since 1.0.63, to add an event to Calendar or read a day's events, create or check off a reminder, send an iMessage, open a mail draft, look up or call a contact, play, pause or skip music, change the volume, dark mode or Wi-Fi, lock the screen or put the Mac to sleep, start the Focus timer, copy text, run one of the user's Shortcuts, report battery and free disk space, and compute. Dates ("in 20 minutes", "tomorrow at 3pm") and arithmetic are worked out by the app, not by the model. It asks before moving, renaming or deleting anything, sending a message, placing a call, emptying the Trash, restarting or shutting down; what it deletes goes to the Trash and the last request is undoable. It never pays, never types a password and cannot click or type inside a web page. Its file reach is the user's folder, iCloud Drive, external disks, Applications and Shared; the Library, hidden files and system folders are refused. A request either reads the web or touches files and personal data, never both. It answers in the language of the request when it recognises it, otherwise in the app's language. While it works with the panel closed, its mascot shows in a wing of the notch. Included in the price, no usage limit. - **Dictation** (since 1.0.64): hold ⌥⇧ Space, speak, release, and the sentence is written where the cursor is, in any app; a quick tap instead keeps listening open, hands-free, until the next press, and Esc cancels. Since 1.0.65 the shortcut can be changed in the app: a key held with ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃, or a function key on its own. Since 1.0.66 a single modifier key also works: Fn, or the right ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃ (this needs the Accessibility permission; the left-hand modifier keys and Shift are not accepted). Transcription is done on the Mac by macOS speech recognition (SpeechAnalyzer on macOS 26 and later; the on-device recogniser on macOS 14 and 15, where the language must be installed in the system Dictation settings). The audio goes to a temporary file that is deleted as soon as the text is returned; it is neither kept nor sent. Nine languages, picked in the app (French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean); "Auto" follows the Mac's first language, and the language is not detected from the voice. The text is pasted and the previous clipboard content is put back; without the Accessibility permission the text is copied instead. Hesitations ("um", "euh") are removed; nothing is rephrased by an AI. The notch shows listening, transcribing and the result; the last thirty dictations are kept locally. - **Meetings: call transcription** (since 1.0.71): Tack+ transcribes a call live, sentence by sentence, from two sources: the microphone ("You") and the sound the call plays on the Mac ("Them", captured with a Core Audio process tap on macOS 14.2 and later, after the user allows "Screen & System Audio Recording"; on macOS 14.0 and 14.1 only the microphone is transcribed). Works with any call app, no bot joins the meeting. When Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp or a browser starts using the microphone, the notch offers to transcribe; it starts on its own only if the user turned that on. Each sentence appears about a second after the speaker pauses; it is transcribed on the Mac by macOS speech recognition and its audio file is deleted at once, so audio is never kept or sent. Without headphones, the microphone's copy of the other side (echo) is dropped. The text is kept in a file on the Mac, never synced; pause, mark a moment, copy, export as Markdown to Documents, delete, and find calls from the panel's search. With the local assistant installed, the call is summarised in 2 to 5 lines with a title and action items (about 15 seconds for a short call on a MacBook Air M4), and the action items can be sent to the To-do widget. It does not recognise individual voices and does not record video. Users should tell the other participants: transcribing a call may require their consent. Guide: [How to transcribe a call on a Mac](https://tackplus.app/en/transcribe-calls-mac). - **The edge panel**: a 6-point line at the bottom or top edge of the screen; a firm push of the cursor (or ⌥ Space) opens the panel, which folds back when the cursor leaves. At the top of a notched MacBook, the line wraps around the camera notch: with the panel closed, "wings" beside the notch show the album artwork and an equalizer (or the Focus timer); with it open, the date on one side and the time on the other. Works on screens without a notch too. - **Music**: Spotify or Apple Music (user's choice): play/pause, previous, next, volume and mute, seeking, artwork, open in player, copy the share link (Spotify). It controls the installed app; no Spotify sign-in. With Spotify, the artwork is loaded from Spotify's servers. - **Messages or WhatsApp**: latest conversations and unread counts. iMessage replies are sent from the panel; for WhatsApp (which has no API), Tack+ opens the conversation with the reply already typed. Needs Full Disk Access and, for Messages, Automation. - **Calendar** (today, with join buttons for video links) and **Mail** (unread, latest messages). - **Clipboard history**: text and links (no images or files), up to 400 items plus 200 pinned, searchable, no expiry. Copies marked concealed/transient by password managers are skipped. Stored in a local file, never synced. - **Stash ("Dépôt")**: drag a file toward the screen edge and the panel opens to take it. Files are referenced, not copied; up to 24. - **Search**: one field searches the clipboard, Stash files, recent conversations, today's appointments and reminders. ⌥ Space opens the panel from anywhere. - **Tools row**: eyedropper (copies #RRGGBB), Focus timer, notepad (synced through the account). The Focus timer opens a page: dial, presets (15, 25, 45, 60 min), focus / short break / long break phases, sessions per cycle, optional auto-start, today's stats; the end is signalled by a sound (and the Beacon LED if it is on). - **Dock of apps** (one icon each, a page on click): Safari tabs, Reminders, Recent files, System quick settings, Contacts, Shortcuts, Apple Notes, Dictionary (define, convert, calculate), Mac+ (only if installed), Account. - **Widgets** (nine, added from the "+" of "Rearrange the home"; none is on the home by default; each has a large and a small size): Assistant (the assistant above, as a card; Apple silicon only), Clocks (world clocks), Countdown, Month, Google Calendar (through the Google accounts already added to the Mac), GitHub (pull requests, activity, projects, notifications; personal access token kept in the Keychain), Weather (Open-Meteo, no account, a city you pick), Monitor (CPU, temperature, memory, swap, battery, disk), To Do (lists, tasks, stars, due dates, notes; stored locally, not synced). - **Customisable home**: "Rearrange the home": cards wiggle like a phone home screen; dropping a card on another swaps their place and size; "−" hides a card (nothing is uninstalled, "+" brings it back); the panel gets shorter when a row empties. Dock icons can be reordered and hidden too. - **The Beacon ("Phare")**: optional, off by default; the caps-lock LED flashes with each keystroke. It uses a single macOS permission, Input Monitoring, and keeps only the moment of each keystroke: characters are never read, stored or sent. - **Face Lock ("Verrou visage")**: optional, off by default. When the panel opens, the Mac's camera checks your face (Apple's Vision framework) and unlocks the whole panel or chosen pages (Messages, Mail, Clipboard, Notes). Up to five named face profiles. Your Mac password or Touch ID always works as a fallback. It is a convenience, not a security feature: a photo can fool a camera. No image is kept; the face print stays on the Mac. - **Updates**: automatic (Sparkle, EdDSA-signed archives, small deltas); hourly check; a pill in the panel installs a ready update in one click. - **Privacy**: what Tack+ reads (messages, calendar, clipboard) stays on the Mac. The account carries the licence and syncs four settings (notepad, Shortcuts favourites, music source, home layout). Other requests: the update check to tackplus.app, Spotify artwork, the assistant's model download from Hugging Face (only if you ask for the assistant) and, only if you add them, the Weather (Open-Meteo) and GitHub widgets. Details: [privacy policy](https://tackplus.app/confidentialite). **What it does not do / Ce qu'il ne fait pas** - It does not replace the macOS volume and brightness pop-ups and shows no notifications, calls or live activities; no lock screen widgets. - The clipboard history keeps no images or files and does not sync with the iPhone. The Stash has no file actions, AirDrop or cloud links. - It controls Spotify or Apple Music only, not audio from a browser. - Dictation does not detect the spoken language, has no voice commands and does not rewrite what was said. - WhatsApp replies are prepared, then sent by the user in WhatsApp. - It is not a launcher, a window manager or a menu bar manager. - Not open source; not on the Mac App Store. **Key facts / Repères** - Price: $4.99 USD a month (subscription, renewed monthly) after a 3-day free trial, updates included, on all the subscriber's Macs.
